Title: Doom scrolling to BOOM scrolling! Reclaim HOURS each week!
Topic: Social Media tools to customize your feed and take control of your profile!
People know social media is my jam! So, they talk to me about what they hate about social media. Never, what they like, hah hah. Always what they don't.
Most of these complaints can be easily solved by utilizing tools that are built in to the platforms. In this blog post I'm going to talk about how you can customize and change your social media settings so YOU control what you see when you tap into a tool.
Using social media WITHOUT using these tools is like going to the grocery store on an empty stomach AND without a list. What happens? You come home with a bag full or Oreos, and not what you went there to buy.
Hey, I'm not judging. I've been there. I may be over 40 (cough) but I still like Lucky Charms. They have more fiber than the Froot Loops and Fruity Pebbles of my earlier days. Right? And us old timers need more fiber in our diet! Hah!
PRAYER:
If you're new to The Social Media MTC then the practice of praying before using social media may be new, or sound strange.
Trust me when I tell you that this one simple practice will transform your time online.
When you invite the Holy Ghost to be with you your online time will elevate. You'll be less inclined to bash, be drawn naturally to uplifting topics and away from self-destructive ones!
Give is a try and then comment here with your experience!
HAVE A PURPOSE:
As you pray consider your purpose. Are you going to post about something meaningful that happened today? Are you checking in on a friend who is ill? Do you need a few minutes to relax?
Accomplish your purpose and then logoff.
Give yourself HOURS a week back to accomplish
TIME LIMITS:
Just like video games and binge-worthy shows, social media can suck our lives away! A simple way to prevent this is by setting a time limit. Have an Alexa handy? Set a timer. Have your phone handy? Set a timer. Have a timer on your microwave or fridge? Set it!
Twenty minutes. Thirty. Ten.
When the buzzer sounds, you're done!
This simple solution will save you HOURS each week. Every person I know says they need "more hours in the day."
Reclaim them! If you cut an hour to 30 minutes a day you now have 3.5 hours extra each week. That's 14 hours on average each month. That's nearly two entire business days! Read, cook, exercise, paint, spend time with your loved ones. Enrich your life.
Set a timer!
ENGAGEMENT:
Also keep in mind that you TEACH the algorithm what to show you based on what you "engage" with.
Engagement =
What you pause to view
What you stay to watch
Ads you click
Posts you click
What you "like, love, sad face, angry face"
Accounts you visit
Pages you visit
Groups you view and interact with
Basically you're telling each tool "HEY! I like this! Show me more!"
Don't like what you're seeing on your Feed? Tell the tool to show you different things by scrolling past Ads you don't like, hiding the Reel widget or "People You May Know" and only clicking and watching things you want to see more of.
FILTERS:
I hate to say it, but there are people I love whose posts I don't want to see. Unending posts about Candy Crush, Solitaire, politics, the weather, scriptures with no context and incorrect grammar (yes, I'm that person).
