Chunky Yarn Pumpkins, Stormy Skies, and the Courage to Create

Hand-knitting pumpkins reminds us that small, simple creative acts can grow into confidence and purpose, both in life and on social media.

The harvest season has always felt like an invitation. The air grows crisp, the leaves turn golden, and suddenly creativity begins to stir. Yesterday afternoon that led me to Red Chair Farms for a cozy workshop to learn something completely new: how to hand-knit chunky yarn pumpkins. No needles, no prior knowledge, just soft yarn and willing hands.

Driven by Determination through the Storm

Getting there was a journey of its own. Wind bent the trees sideways and even a tumbleweed blew across the road. Lighting flashed nearby. I wondered if I should have stayed home. Yet I kept going, because growth rarely arrives in perfect weather.

Courage often looks like simply showing up.

    Surrounded by Friendship and Community

The power flickered during class!, but did not walk into that workshop alone. A dear friend came along, ready to learn and laugh with me. We twisted yarn, talked our heads off and reminded each other that perfection was not the goal. Creativity is richer and far more joyful when it is shared.

This truth echoes across the digital world. Community builds confidence.

Can Beginners Hand-Knit Chunky Yarn Pumpkins Without Needles?

Yes. Anyone can. Hand-knitting uses only your fingers to form a chain that becomes the pumpkin’s body. When your tube is long enough, you loop the ends together, add filling, and cinch the top and bottom to form that adorable pumpkin shape.

Here is a basic supply list:

    • Chunky or jumbo yarn

    • Scissors

    • Filling: polyester stuffing, spare fabric scraps, or the remnants of your yarn skein

    • A cinnamon stick or stick from the yard to create the stem

It is quick, relaxing, and a perfect beginner craft for fall.

Harvest Lessons: The Seeds We Plant Become the Things We Celebrate

Pumpkins represent abundance, but abundance is never accidental. It comes from planting seeds, nurturing growth, trying again and again, and celebrating progress. My pumpkins are not perfect and that is precisely what I love about them. They remind me that learning is a process and growth is worth the effort.

    The same is true online.

Where Craft Meets Calling: The Social Media MTC Connection

We live in a digital harvest field. Ideas, encouragement, faith, testimony, and joy are seeds that thrive when shared. That little workshop reminded me how powerful it feels to try something unfamiliar. If hand-knitting a pumpkin can boost confidence, imagine what is possible when we learn new digital skills that help us uplift others online.

If you feel nervous about posting your thoughts, sharing your faith, or expressing creativity on social media, start with something small. Share a photo of what you are learning. Write one caption from the heart. Make progress one post at a time.

Small seeds grow into a bountiful harvest.

    Storms Come, Creativity Remains

By the end of the night, the wind had calmed. I drove home safely with three plump pumpkins on the seat beside me and a heart full of gratitude. Trying something new made the evening unforgettable.

If you have been waiting for perfect conditions to begin creating and sharing with intention, consider this a gentle nudge. There is beauty in showing up, especially when the sky looks a little stormy.

    Your Turn

What is one small thing you could try this week that would bring you joy and help you share more intentionally online?

Whenever you are ready to learn more digital skills and build confidence in your online voice, The Social Media MTC is here to help you grow.

Me and my creations! Not bad for less than 3 hours and learning from scratch!
