Better Done Than Perfect: Why I Finally Launched The Social Media MTC

One of my mentors shared a piece of advice that has completely transformed the way I approach my business:

Better Done Than Perfect.

If you're anything like me, that can be a difficult principle to embrace.

I love creating quality content. As a Corporate Trainer, teacher and leader I've always wanted every lesson to be clear, every handout polished, and every presentation meaningful.

When I began building The Social Media MTC, I wanted the same thing. I envisioned beautiful videos, professionally produced courses, and a website that was flawless before anyone ever saw it. I was terrified to click "Publish" fearing that if anyone saw the unpolished work they would judge me as incompetent and I would fail before I ever began.

The real problem? Perfection has a way of keeping us from making progress.

Waiting for Perfect

For months I worked behind the scenes building courses, writing curriculum, creating downloads, and designing my website. I even took a day off work to record video lessons.

When I watched them back, I hated them. The microphone didn't sound right. The lighting wasn't what I wanted.

I wasn't teaching with the energy I knew I was capable of. The editing took forever. Nothing felt "ready."

So I kept...waiting. Waiting for the right microphone, waiting for a new laptop, waiting to have time, waiting to have creative energy. Waiting.

Then a mentor shared a motto that woke me up: Better Done Than Perfect.

I published the website. I wrote courses instead of filming videos. In the act of moving forward I've been struck by lightning ideas more than once.

Faith Looks Like Action

The startup world has a phrase called Minimum Viable Product (MVP).

The idea is simple.

Instead of waiting until every detail is perfect, launch the simplest version that delivers real value.

Learn.

Improve.

Grow.

Repeat.

The principle isn't just good business advice.

I believe it's a principle of faith.

Throughout the scriptures, the Lord rarely reveals every step before asking us to move forward.

He asks us to trust Him.

God Opens Doors We Cannot See

Looking back, I realize that every step forward has brought opportunities I never could have anticipated.

Launching my website allowed me to begin building an email list.

It allowed people to enroll in free courses.

It opened the door for affiliate partnerships.

It gave me opportunities to receive valuable feedback from trusted friends.

It also showed me what people actually wanted.

Had I continued waiting for perfection, I would have delayed every one of these lessons.

Sometimes we imagine that waiting is the safer choice.

Often, it's simply fear wearing the disguise of wisdom.

Choosing Faith Over Fear

There is always a journey between where we are and where God wants us to become.

That journey requires courage.

It requires humility.

It requires faith.

I've learned that faith isn't simply believing God can bless our efforts.

Faith is taking the next step when we don't yet know exactly how everything will work out.

As we move forward, God sends people.

He opens doors.

He provides answers.

He teaches lessons we never could have learned standing still.

This Week's Invitation

Is there something you've been postponing because it isn't perfect?

A business.

A calling.

A creative project.

A conversation.

A dream God has quietly placed on your heart.

Instead of asking, "Is it perfect?"

Try asking,

"Is it ready for the next step?"

Because sometimes the greatest blessings don't come after everything is finished.

They come because we were willing to begin.

The Best Ideas Came After I Began

Here's the part that surprised me most.

I assumed I needed to have everything figured out before launching.

The opposite turned out to be true.

The very best ideas didn't come while I was planning.

They came while I was doing.

As I began creating, teaching, writing, and serving, I started having one aha! moment after another. New products came to mind. Better ways to teach became clear. Marketing ideas appeared seemingly out of nowhere. Doors opened that I didn't even know existed.

None of those ideas came in the waiting.

Looking back, I realize that inspiration often follows action.

God didn't expect me to have the entire blueprint before I started building.

He simply asked me to move forward in faith.

Each step created enough light to see the next step.

That's how discipleship often works.

That's how businesses grow.

That's how faith grows, too.
